2024 on reflection |
In 2024 The Crossing Land continued providing free Firewise Landscapes workshops in our region and fire affected community. Aboriginal staff helped plant trees, collect local seed and grow seedlings. They also helped improve succession and biodiversity in our existing shelterbelts and refuge areas and maintain those areas as part of our firewise summer preparations. Young people on school and university gap year programs with The Crossing Land assisted this work and learnt about past fire and our cool mosiac burning in the area. Our total tree plantings now reach over 28000 with a strong focus on creating moister refuge gully and shelterbelt areas and increasing water retention in our shelterbelts with the use of swales. Thanks for Firewise support from The National Parks and Wildlife Foundation who received funding from the Australian Government through the Preparing Australian Communities local stream.
