The Crossing Land Education Centre Bermagui – Upcoming community workshops and camps for young people

With the weather warming up and restrictions set to ease, the Crossing plans to make the most of Spring with a number of adult community workshops and camps for young people planned.

The Crossing is fortunate to work with great community partners. We would like to thank St. Vinnies, the Mumbulla Foundation, the Cobargo Community Bushfire Recovery Fund, The Bega Valley Shire Council, the Far South Coast Landcare Association, the Red Cross, the Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund, Coodinaire South East NSW PHN and Landcare Australia for supporting our work.

**The Crossing always runs events and programs in a safe and welcoming environment. All our staff will be fully vaccinated, and in line with NSW government regulations we will also require all participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.**

 

Adult community workshops:

Making Gully Refuges More Fire-Retardant – October 31, November 14, December 12, February 13, March 13, April 24 

A one day, Landcare supported workshop on encouraging the succession of native gullies to become more fire-retardant over time. Includes lunch, and ten tubestock and guards to take home to plant at your place.

The Landcare Led Bushfire Recovery project has been supported by the Australian Government’s Bushfire Recovery Program for Wildlife and their Habitat.  The Crossing also wishes to acknowledge the support of Coordinaire South Eastern NSW PHN in development of this workshop over 2021.

A fully catered weekend workshop. Come along and learn how the principles of permaculture can help you be more prepared for disaster. One day at Brogo Permaculture Gardens and one day at the Crossing Land.

Fire Retardant Design and Cool Burning for 18-35 yrs in the Triangle Region – May 14-15

A fully catered no cost workshop for young people in the Triangle Region to develop skills and knowledge around fire-retardant landscape design, permaculture, fuel loads, fire in the ecosystem, and fire-protection strategies. The Crossing will focus on practical and real-life skills you can take back to your property or community to make changes to help us all live safer with fire.

 Gather ‘Round (by Campfires Coop hosted at the Crossing Land) – Throughout 2022

What’s possible for our bushfire impacted communities if we work together like never before?
People living in 10 communities across South East NSW, or working in recovery across the Bega Valley, Shoalhaven or Eurobodalla are invited to consider joining this 12 month program – practising shared leadership for positive change. Curious? Visit the website. EOIs now open until 10 November.

Permaculture Design Courses (run by Brogo Permaculture Gardens and hosted at the Crossing Land) – Various Dates, 2022

A chance to see the world with different eyes and become a sustainable designer.  An opportunity to develop design knowledge in a relevant climate and landscape over two weeks.  This is a unique course with seven expert teachers and three days of site visits learning about some of the best designs in the region.

Yr 8/9 Landcare Wild Camp – November 19-21

Come along for an adventure, meet great new friends, get your hands dirty planting trees and in the garden.

Yr 6/7 Landcare Adventure Camp – November 26-28

Bikes, Canoes, sleeping in a train carriage bunkhouse… What could be more fun? A great way to make friends from other schools, and for year 6’s to learn more about high school.

A no-cost extension camp for young people interested in learning about fire-retardant design, assessing fuel loads, and fire protection strategies.
